Junior Musical Theatre

About Junior Musical Theatre

Does your child love to sing, dance and act? Musical Theatre combines all three!

In our youngest musical theatre class (MT1) students are introduced to the wonderful world of theatre and to combine all their performing passions into one place. Our classes at this age group focus on building confidence through performance and fun.

Musical theatre classes include what we call ‘theatre sports’ which are exercises, activities and games that encourage students to interact with their peers and work as a team whilst incorporating dance, music and acting. Within the classes students will also learn some basic singing skills through vocal exercises and working on a song from a broadway show, as well as harmonies and ensemble work (singing together).

MT1 students perform in our annual end of year concert, and begin working on a Musical Theatre piece that ties in with the concert theme around the middle of Term 3. Students will learn about the story, the song, the characters and performance qualities. Students will also get to experience what it feels like to be a pop star as we pre-record our Musical Theatre songs for the concert to accompany the students on stage. In 2021, our MT1 students performed ‘Tomorrow’ from the musical ‘Annie’ and had the whole audience in tears. It was so wonderful!

Graded Levels

Students in Pre-Primary, Primary and Grade 1 combine together for Musical Theatre 1. When performing in a show – weather it be a school musical, an amature or professional production children have to work with other children of all ages, which is why our Musical Theatre 1 classes are combined.

Students in Grade 2 (Year 3 at school) will be assessed by Mr Isaac as to whether they should join MT1 or the next level up, MT2 depending on their skills, maturity and experience with musical theatre.

Pricing

An annual enrolment fee of $35 applies to all students. A 10% discount applies to families with multiple students. Costumes, special events and exam classes are payable separately. If vacancies allow, students are welcome to enrol mid-term and pro-rated from week 3 onwards.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Nope – no prerequisites. Musical Theatre is a combination of singing, dancing and acting though, so all students in musical theatre would benefit from attending a dance class (ballet or jazz recommended) to compliment their other skills.

  • While musical theatre is a combination of all three disciplines, we know that some children lean more towards singing and acting than singing and dancing.

To really develop a strong singing voice and understanding of music, private singing lessons are highly recommended. Contact us for more information.

Brilliant teachers who are knowledgeable about their craft as well as being sensitive to children’s needs. Also a very well organised dance school with excellent communication to parents.

My daughter has been attending since she was 3 years old and is now about to turn 8. It is a fantastic school with just the right balance of making it super fun for the kids, but teaching discipline, respect and deportment. My daughter and I have both made great friends here and it is a wonderful community. I highly recommend this school!
